Glenn Irwin has missed out on a ‘missing place’ in the 2024 British Superbike race after enduring a monster crash at Truxton.
The Paul Perande Motorsport Ducati rider had a tough weekend at Truxton, finishing the first race in 14th place, but he was on the front row of the fastest race.
However, Irwin got the better of Campbell in third place and landed on the track.
The race was organized with a red flag. Irwin went on to compete in the final race of the weekend, although he finished fifteenth with a crash and penalty.
Now 47 points adrift of the champions in fourth, Irvine believes there is a risk of losing the streak but is not “concerned” about the title picture at this point.
“I’ve had good results before, but the second or third gear is more painful,” he said.
Starting from the front row for the sprint gave us many opportunities to get on the podium, but the error cost us and it was a missed opportunity.
The last race was 50/50 but it felt good so I drove and even though I was annoyed to lose some places in the end we got some points.
We struggled with the front tire all season, but we have more to test in the next round and more ideas.
47 points from us, but I’m not too worried.
“We have a lot of races coming up and a lot of points, everyone is on a good track for us, so we will be back.
Team Principal Jordan Byrd congratulated the rider and his team for taking part in the final race of the weekend at Truxton.
“When you look at the race, to come back from that and get on the track for the last race is a testament to Glenn and the team,” he said.
We tried everything in the last race.
We knew Truxton was going to be a tough game for us, but Glenn and the team didn’t give up and we couldn’t capitalize on their performance.
We head to Cadwell, a track that Glenn and the team have been happy with, so we set out to boost our confidence and renew our championship challenge.
