Arlington, TX – In a stunning move, the Dallas Cowboys have acquired veteran defensive tackle Jordan Phillips from the New York Giants in a rare divisional trade.
Phillips, a 62-game starter, brings a wealth of experience and depth to the Cowboys’ defensive line.
The trade, announced Tuesday, sends a 2025 fifth-round draft pick to the Giants in exchange for Phillips and a 2026 seventh-round pick.
This move marks a significant shift in the Cowboys’ roster-building strategy, as they look to bolster their defense ahead of the upcoming season.
Phillips, 30, has been a stalwart presence on the Giants’ defensive line since 2018, recording 15.5 sacks and 34 tackles for loss.
His addition provides a much-needed boost to the Cowboys’ interior pass rush and run defense.
“This trade is a rare opportunity to add a proven talent within our division,” said Cowboys Head Coach Mike McCarthy.
“Jordan’s experience and skillset will be a valuable asset to our team.”
The trade is seen as a win-win for both teams, as the Giants free up cap space and acquire valuable draft capital, while the Cowboys address a key positional need.
Phillips is expected to suit up for the Cowboys in their upcoming preseason game against the Eagles.
