Chelsea now appear to be taking the final steps to sign Aarón Anselmino from Boca Juniors.

According to Argentine journalist Germán García Grova, the clubs have reached an agreement in principle on the transfer.

Chelsea is expected to pay 18 million USD plus potential performance bonus and there is already a pending six-year contract with Anselmino.

Now that the South American season runs through at the end of the year, there is another old battle to keep the defender a little longer.

Grova reports that Boca Juniors want Anselmino in their squad until December, while Chelsea want him ‘in Europe’.

These last words could be a sign that the Blues are not even considering including him in their squad for next season and would rather loan him to a European club than a club in South America.

Anselmino only made 10 appearances for the Boca Juniors first team, but that was more than enough to attract the interest of several clubs. Manchester United were also said to be pursuing him, but it seems Chelsea quickly reached an agreement first.
