Borussia Dortmund stun PSG to clinch Champions League final spot

Champions League. Vinicius brace helps Real Madrid share the spoils against Bayern Munich.

Joselu scored two late goals to send Real Madrid to the Champions League final with a 2-1 win over Bayern Munich on Wednesday night, securing a 4-3 aggregate victory.

The German side had taken the lead in the second half through Alphonso Davies, but Joselu’s quickfire double at the death means Real Madrid will face Borussia Dortmund at Wembley in the final.

The first half passed with both sides having some promising openings, but it was Real Madrid who looked the most likely to find the opening goal of the night.

Bayern’s surprise lead

Rodrygo came closest as he hit the post and then saw his rebound saved by Manuel Neuer, but the fact there were two balls on the pitch at the time would have resulted in controversy had the Brazilian scored.

That set the tone for the second half in which Neuer became the only player keeping Bayern in with a chance. Real Madrid applied lots of pressure and looked poised to take a deserved lead, with Vinicius Jr clearly having the beating of Joshua Kimmich.

Completely against the run of play, it was the German side who scored the opener with just over 20 minutes to go. Davies, linked with a move to Real Madrid in the summer, got around Antonio Rudiger with his weaker right foot and fired a powerful shot into the top corner, stunning Bernabeu.

Real Madrid fought back Real Madrid almost immediately put the ball in the net, but Nacho Fernández fouled Kimmich in the penalty area by pushing his face with both hands, so the goal was scored.

Carlo’s team Ancelotti continued to apply pressure and it was finally announced in the 87th minute when Neuer fired a masterful shot and Joselu scored the equalizer.

The former Stoke City striker did not finish, In the 9th minute of stoppage time, he caught Antonio Rudiger’s pass and after a long VAR check, the goal was recognized and Real Madrid took the lead.

Matthijs de Ligt thought he had equalized but the assistant referee flagged for offside just before his shot hit the net, with replays showing it was an extremely tight decision.

With Harry Kane has withdrawn, Bayern no longer has many chances to achieve their dream of repeating the collapsed 2013 Champions League final.
