Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr understands what it’s like to constantly watch the fans calls for his firing.
Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr reflected on a difficult 2023-24 season that saw more fans than ever cry called for his removal as head coach of the franchise. In an interview with Fox Sports, Kerr revealed that fans who wanted him gone were bothering him.
Kerr reiterated that he is grateful to make a living from basketball and can accept the compromise of letting people speculate about his job security
“I never in a million years would have imagined that life would be about basketball and that I would have this kind of fortune through a game…If the price to pay for doing that is” Kerr also made it clear that he takes his role in creating the Warriors dynasty seriously and that he wants this chapter of the team to end with dignity for all of its players.
I don’t try to be completely humble and say I had nothing to do with it. And that makes me proud. But the stars are truly aligned and a spirit of honesty and humility is required. If the stars hadn’t aligned, I could have gone to the Knicks and been fired after two years without ever having had any of those experiences. I want this to end with satisfaction and dignity. I want our players to feel proud. themselves.
Kerr received a contract extension from team owner Joe Lacob this season, possibly as reward for leading the franchise over the past decade and taking them to unbelievable championship in 2022.
Dynastic championship should stay together
Steve Kerr talks about the era where the team ends with dignity for the players is very important, because there is one player who could face an undeserved end to his time with the Warriors if he is fired this summer. That player was Klay Thompson, who went scoreless in the Warriors’ Kings’ Play-In loss.
Every loud voice in the Warriors’ locker room was in favor of Klay returning to the team form as a free player. . Stephen Curry has made it clear that he can’t play without Klay and Draymond Green by his side.
“I can’t see myself without those two guys. I understand that this league is changing and There’s a lot ahead and we won’t play forever but we’ve been through a lot together, at the end of the day, I know they want to win and I know I want to win and that’s it I’m worried
Draymond Green pointed out how well the series has worked for him and Steph, so they’re forced to do the same with Klay.
“I don’t think you he can do it. There is a scenario that happens. in which Klay leaves and that is the best scenario for this team. They did right by me. They’ve done right by Steph. They’ve done right by all of us.”
Klay averaged 17.9 points, 3.3 rebounds, and 2.3 assists in a disappointing year for the Warriors. With Curry, Green, and Kerr under contract, ensuring Thompson returns is all the team needs to keep the core of their dynasty alive.
