Following a 10-1 start, Philadelphia dropped six of its last seven before losing in an NFC wild-card game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In his four college seasons (three at Alabama, one at Oklahoma), Hurts had a different playcaller every year. It wasn’t until the 2021-22 season that Hurts had the same coordinator in consecutive seasons, when current Indianapolis Colts head coach Shane Steichen held the position. “I think as a player I really strive for durability and consistency,” Hurts said. “As a midfielder, I crave those things in a playmaker and a midfielder coach because you can see how consistency in those areas can produce excellence. How sharp,” Under Steichen’s guidance, Hurts led the Eagles to an appearance in Super Bowl LVII and a runner-up finish. in MVP voting in 2022. When Steichen left for Indianapolis, Johnson was promoted from QB coach to offensive coordinator, but he, Hurts and head coach Nick Sirianni reportedly disagreed. “I think that’s his best. He played a key role in my development throughout my time here as an Eagle,” Hurts said of Johnson, a longtime family friend who is now an assistant coach leader and coordinator of the Washington Commanders’ offensive passing game. He’ll absorb it all and be ready to adjust when it comes to the new coordinator’s game plan. I’m a sponge. I think there is a certain beauty in that,” Hurts said. “I’m just in sponge mode. I let them do what they’re going to do and then we adapt from there. I think what we all need to understand is the importance of the foundation” So I want coaches to state their foundation of what they want something to be, what they want it to look like and then obviously you adjust from there.”
