The Philadelphia Eagles have locked up wide receiver DeVonta Smith to a new contract extension. Smith signed a three-year contract that will now keep him with the organization through the 2028 NFL season. Smith, the 10th overall pick in 2021, has two years remaining on his recruiting contract. The Eagles confirmed the news on social media but did not disclose the financial terms of the deal.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Smith’s extension is worth $75 million and comes with $51 million guaranteed. This makes Smith the fifth player in the league to have an average annual salary of at least $25 million.

 

Since joining the league, Smith has become one of the Best kid in the game. In three seasons as a professional, the Heisman Trophy winner caught 240 passes for 3,178 yards and 19 touchdowns.

The Eagles are known for prioritizing key players under contract from very early on, which is why they offered Smith a new contract. deal even though they still have two years of control. The move will likely save Philly money as the wide receiver market is headed for a reset with stars like Justin Jefferson of the Minnesota Vikings and Ja’Marr Chase of the Cincinnati Bengals expected to soon end near-record transactions.
