The 49ers can now opt for an alternate look if they wish. Earlier in the week, the league announced that it had revised its uniform policy to allow teams to design a third helmet, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.
That doesn’t actually apply to the San 49ers Francisco because they don’t have a different helmet, but maybe it’s time for them to change that. Variety is always nice, and the 49ers have some great color combinations they can use.
So, should the 49ers add an alternate helmet to their uniforms?
Not at all. The 49ers have such a classic look that you shouldn’t mess with it. It’s too good for them to switch to something dirty and risk looking like clowns on the field. As the saying goes, “good looks, good games” for athletes.Plus, the 49ers have had one of the best alternate uniforms. Whenever they returned in 1994, home and away, they were easily the best team in the league. They shouldn’t deviate from it by adding another helmet style.Just because the option exists doesn’t mean the 49ers should use it. A lot of teams do that and they look ridiculous. Take the Arizona Cardinals for example. The all-black replacement helmets with the cardinal logo look very strange. For the 49ers, don’t change or play with anything that isn’t broken. They are forever one of the most iconic and classic looks in all of sports. The way they wear their uniforms and helmets now is perfect.
