Smith’s new contract, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, is officially for three years. One-year extension worth $75 million, with $51 million guaranteed. Additionally, the Eagles announced plans to purchase a fifth-year option on Smith’s rookie contract, tying him to the NFC East franchise through the 2028 seasons.
The 2020 Heisman Trophy winner was selected with the No. 10 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft by the Eagles. He appeared in 50 games over the past three seasons, hauling in 240 receptions for 3,178 yards and 19 touchdowns, serving as Philadelphia’s second option in the passing game. Smith earned $16.7 million in his first three seasons with the Eagles.His extension and the exercise of Smith’s fifth-year option means “The Slim Reaper” will average $18.8 million per year over the next five seasons. It also gives the Eagles salary cap flexibility while still maintaining control of one of their talented young players.
